KiHS Students Participate in YES Olympics

On Wednesday, October 14, KiHS students, Desiree Jacko & Michaela Bottle, Saugeen; John-George Mckay, Fort Severn; and Darryl Chapman & Sundance Kaminawaish, Sachigo Lake, participated in the 30th Annual York Engineering and Science (YES) Olympics at York University in Toronto.  The students participated in challenges involving mathematics, chemistry, research and enviro-geocaching where they used a GPS receiver to find eco-friendly objects hidden at pre-set coordinates. KiHS students competed with students throughout Ontario.

Students and their chaperones, Derek Kanate, North Caribou Lake and Freda and Ed Kenny, Elliot Lake, traveled to Toronto on Sunday, October 11, to spend time visiting the city before the YES Olympics.  They visited the Ontario Science Centre and saw the newly released IMAX film, Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk; the CN Tower for a spectacular view of Toronto and surrounds; and the Air Canada Centre where they watched an NHL game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Colorado Avalanche.  In spite of Toronto being defeated by the Avalanche, the game was definitely the highlight of the trip.

Overall, this was a very positive, memorable experience for both students and chaperones.
